Dorothea Lange's contribution to photography gave an inside look into the Great Depression. It showed the sadness and poverty each and every person was undergoing during this important time in history. By using black and white photography, her photography displayed the struggle each family was enduring. Many of her photographs displayed the effect the depression had on not just adults, but children as well. As shown in the third photograph, the children effected by the Great Depression struggled just as much as any other person was effected.
Lewis Hine 1874-1940
Lewis Hine's contribution to photography was very important in showing the labour era. Because of Hine and his photography, he helped change the child labour laws in the United States. Hine's photography brought attention to child labour and how bad it was in the early 1900's. His use of black and white photography captured the depression within each and every child/adult at work during this period of reestablishment.
Matthew Brady 1822-1896
Matthew Brady's photography captured the civil war in the United States during the 1800's. Photography was just started at this point in time, making his photography even more important, capturing the emotion and resistance each person felt during this time. Brady photographed important political figures of this time as well, including Abraham Lincoln, documenting the entire conflict during this time. The black and white effect of his photographs demonstrates the start of photography, during a very important time in history.
Eadward Muybridge 1830-1904
Eadward Muybridge froze time and nature in his photography. He brought a new style of photography to life, while keeping it still at the same moment. His contribution to photography was how he was able to capture these photographs in the early 1900's. His photography captured the movement of the subject in different frames, allowing the viewer to experience the action in the photograph.
